Dr. Waddy’s in depth knowledge of history combined with his brilliant literary style rivals that of Dickens and Dumas. An intelligent page-turner that will keep you on the edge with intense twists and plot turns all the way to the end. Set in 18th-century British India, this story builds to the romantic intersection of two lives: one of an English noblewoman who has been sent by her father for an arranged marriage, and the native Indian man who is among those sent to rescue her when she is kidnapped on the way. One aspect I enjoyed most was the “immersibility” of the book – both the scenery and character descriptions were vivid enough to allow me envision the plot unfolding in my minds’ eye. This level of detail does present some challenge in keeping all the secondary characters straight, but this did not take away from my enjoyment of the book. The book is sprinkled with enough historical detail to be enriching, not so much as to give away Waddy’s day job as a history professor. I confess I found myself wishing for the romantic aspects of the story to be more “PG-13” than “PG,” but was surprised to find how much I appreciated the one-after-another turns of the plot. This book is equally great for the kind of reader who reads a chapter at a time, and the reader who longs for a book that is impossible to put down.Katherinenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7261018093353342301.post-48259845670388730822013-09-14T10:24:28.138-07:002013-09-14T10:24:28.138-07:00Thanks, anonymous!
